1928:  

Birthday of Elie Wiesel, Romanian-born survivor, prolific writer (57 books!), teacher and activist, who is generally credited with coining the term "Holocaust." In 1985 he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom and in 1986, the Nobel Peace Prize.  

1932:  

Birthday of Rainer Weiss (Jewish father), American physicist known for his contributions in gravitational physics and astrophysics. In 2017, Weiss was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics "for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves."
