1881:  

Eliezer Ben-Yehuda and his friends agreed to use Hebrew exclusively in their daily conversations, marking the modest beginning of the revival of Hebrew as a living language. He went on to invent dozens of words necessary for modernizing the ancient language and compiled a comprehensive dictionary. Today more than 10 million people speak Hebrew worldwide.
