5547 (1787):

Yahrzeit of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, Chasidic leader widely known as the Noam Elimelech, after the title of the book he authored. He attracted thousands of followers, among them many who became great Chasidic masters in their own right.

1887:

Birthday of Erich Mendelsohn, German architect, known for his expressionist, Art Deco and Streamline Moderne architecture in the 1920’s, including the Einstein Tower, an astronomical observatory suitable to experimentally confirm the Theory of Relativity. In 1935, he opened an office in Jerusalem and designed many now-famous buildings buildings in the International Style that greatly influenced local architecture.
