According to tradition, Yehoshua (Joshua) commanded the sun to “stand still upon Givon” (Joshua 10:12; Seder Olam 11), enabling the Israelites to complete the battle against Canaan before the onset of Shabbat.

Betar member Shlomo Ben-Yosef (Tabachnik) was sentenced to be hanged by the British for alleged terrorist activities, which in fact consisted of being part of a group that scared away Arabs by firing shots in the air. Despite world-wide protests, his sentence was carried out.
