3RD DAY OF CHANUKAH

Mashed Potato Pancakes (Latkes) By  Cheryl
1891:

Birthday of Nelly Sachs, German-born novelist, poet, and playwright. Beginning her literary career only at age 50, she often wrote on Jewish themes and the experience of grief and persecution. She received the 1966 Nobel Prize for literature (on her birthday) "for her outstanding lyrical and dramatic writing, which interprets Israel's destiny with touching strength"--the first Jewish woman in any field to win a Nobel.
