2488 (1273 BCE):
After circling the walls of Jericho one time each day for the previous six days, Yehoshua (Joshua) and the army marched around Jericho seven times, accompanied by the Holy Ark. After blowing the shofar, the walls miraculously crashed and sank, leaving the city open and unprotected. Jericho was easily conquered, becoming the first fortified Canaanite city to fall to the Children of Israel in their conquest of the Promised Land (Joshua 6).

Birthday of Sigmund Freud, Austrian psychiatrist who founded the psychoanalytic school of psychology. Freud is best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the defense mechanism of repression, and for creating the clinical practice of psychoanalysis. His theories were opposed at first, but in time profoundly changed the way in which people see themselves.

Birthday of Max Ophüls, German-born director who made nearly 30 films, working in Germany (1931–1933), France (1933–1940 and 1950–1957), and the United States (1947–1950).

Birthday of Moshe Feldenkrais, Ukrainian/Israeli engineer, physicist and founder of the Feldenkrais Method, a system of physical exercise that aims to improve human functioning by increasing self-awareness through movement.
1923:
The First World Congress of Jewish Women opened in Vienna, bringing together 200 delegates from over 20 countries. Zionism and emigration to Palestine for Jewish refugees was discussed and strongly supported.
1930:
Birthday of Mordechai (Motta) Gur, commander of the paratroopers who captured the Old City of Jerusalem in the Six-Day War. After the capture, he famously shouted, "The Temple Mount is in our hands!" Subsequently he served as the 10th IDF Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army from 1974-78.
